How to use the Editor Custom Mapping feature to detect links from an imported file? (PLATINUM only)

This feature is exclusive to PLATINUM accounts. If you are a BASIC or PREMIUM user and wish to take advantage of this feature, please upgrade.

Full recap and information in our video:

The Editor Custom Mapping feature allows you to automatically detect specific words or expressions in your publication and assign corresponding URLs to them by importing your own reference file.

Go to the Publications page of your account.

Hover your mouse over the publication and click on the Arrow to display the drop-down menu. Select Editor.

Once the Editor is open, click the star icon located in the bottom toolbar to open the Automatic link detection panel.

In the Automatic link detection window, scroll down to the Custom section. Clicking Custom will immediately open your computer’s file explorer so that you can select your mapping file.

Before importing your file, make sure it follows the required format. The order of the columns is important and must always be:

  • Match (the exact text the Editor should detect in your publication)
  • URL (the link that will be applied to each detected text)
  • Label (optional – a tooltip displayed when hovering over the link)

Your file must not contain a header row. The Mapping process will not work correctly if the column order is changed or if a header is included.

After selecting your file, the Custom section displays the message “Found X rules”. This indicates how many rules were successfully detected by the Editor Custom Mapping feature.

Click on “Found X rules” to expand the list and view the detailed mapping entries. The table shows three columns:

  • Match — the exact text the Editor will search for in your publication
  • URL — the link that will be applied to each detected occurrence. The URL must include a valid protocol (for example https://, http:// or ftp://) to be recognized.
  • Label — optional tooltip text displayed when hovering over the link

You may also enable Match whole words or Match case depending on your needs. When ready, click Detect to apply the mapping to your publication.

You can then edit or delete the generated links directly in the Editor.

Make sure that the text in your file matches exactly what appears in your publication (punctuation, capitalization and spacing included).
