The Style Editor is an advanced Calaméo feature that allows you to customize the appearance and certain functionalities of the Calaméo reader.
It is designed for users who want to go beyond standard settings, while keeping centralized and reusable management of their customizations.
General principle
The Style Editor is based on a simple principle:
- you create style sheets
- each style sheet contains rules
- these rules define the behavior and appearance of the reader
- a style sheet can be applied to one or more publications
Once created, a style sheet can be reused, modified, or applied to different content without having to redo the settings.
What is the Style Editor used for?
The Style Editor allows you to:
- create up to 3 style sheets per account
- customize the interface and certain actions of the Calaméo reader
- apply the same style to multiple publications
- manage styles from a dedicated space
- ensure visual and functional consistency across all your publications
This is a complementary tool to Themes, designed for more advanced customization needs.
Key concepts to know
Before going any further, here are some important concepts that will be detailed in the following articles:
- A style sheet is a set of rules
- A style sheet is empty by default
- Rules are organized by categories to make navigation easier
- Some rules are active as soon as they are added, while others require additional activation
- Styles work with a system of hierarchy and inheritance, meaning that a rule can impact multiple elements of the reader
These concepts are explained step by step in the dedicated articles in this section.
Managing style sheets
From the My styles area, you can:
- create a new style sheet
- edit an existing style sheet
- duplicate a style
- apply a style to certain publications or to a Folder
- set a style as the default style
- delete a style sheet
Each style sheet also has a reference that can be used via the Calaméo API.
Who is this feature for?
The Style Editor is particularly suited for users who want:
- more precise control over the Calaméo reader
- consistent customization across multiple publications
- centralized management of style rules
- a flexible and scalable solution
No technical knowledge is required to get started, but the feature offers great depth for more specific needs.
